Business Manager – Defence Industry


An established and highly specialised technology-focused organisation is seeking an experienced professional to drive growth across key accounts and new market segments. Operating across multiple industries—including defence, telecommunications, and electronics—this role is ideal for someone with a strong technical background and an understanding or network within the New Zealand Defence Force.

Responsibilities of your new role

  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve revenue and margin targets across assigned markets
  • Drive growth through both new business acquisition and expansion of existing client relationships
  • Increase market share by identifying opportunities, analysing competitors, and positioning tailored solutions
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Prepare and deliver sales presentations, proposals, and product demonstrations
  • Identify customer needs and configure customised technical solutions aligned to requirements
  • Negotiate commercial agreements within defined parameters
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records within CRM systems
  • Provide regular reporting on sales performance, pipeline, and market insights
  • Act as the customer advocate internally to ensure high-quality service delivery
  • Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments
  • Support a safety-first culture and contribute to a positive, compliant working environment


Experience, Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience in a leadership role, ideally within defence, telecommunications, or electronics sectors
  • Experience working with technical products, systems, test & measurement equipment or avionics is highly regarded
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to achieve sales targets and drive revenue growth
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with a customer-centric mindset
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation capabilities
  • Ability to understand complex technical solutions and translate them into customer value
  • Highly organised with experience using CRM systems for pipeline and account management
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and travel as required
